Parupu Rasam

Ingredients
1 cup Thuvar dhal
1 piece Cinnamon stick
Tamarind paste
2 Red chilies
1.5 tbsp Coriander seeds
1/4 tbsp Cumin seeds
1/2 tbsp Peppercorns
Hing a small pinch
1/4 tbsp Mustard
Methi seeds a small pinch
1 Cloves
1/4 tbsp Turmeric
A few Curry leaves
1 tbsp Ghee
1.5 tbsp Oil
1 tbsp Salt
 

Method:
  1. Cook thuvar dhal with turmeric, with 2 cups of water.
  2. Fry red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, 1 tablespoon thuvar dhal, and hing, a pinch of mustard, cloves, cinnamon stick, and methi in oil. Wet grind the above mixture and keep it aside. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil, add tamarind paste, turmeric, and salt, and let this boil for a few minutes. Now add the ground masala and let it boil for 5-10 minutes, till the flavor comes out. Add the cooked thuvar dhal, and let it boil for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Heat some ghee, splutter mustard, then add a small pinch of cumin seeds, and curry leaves and add this to the rasam.
